Classrooms in International Schools Quietly Change in the AI Era

In April this year, the Ministry of Education and four other departments jointly issued the "Artificial Intelligence + Education" Action Plan, requiring the accelerated popularization of AI education in primary and secondary schools.
As pioneers in educational innovation, what changes are occurring in the classrooms of international schools?
📗IB: Already cultivating abilities that "AI cannot take away"
👧Lower grades: Teachers lead children in discussions such as "Is everything AI says correct?" to foster information discrimination awareness.
🧑Upper grades: Students are allowed to use AI to search for information and organize data, but they must cite sources and analyze the limitations of AI responses.
The IB organization has made it clear: AI tools will not be banned, but AI-generated content must be transparently cited and cannot be passed off as one's original work.
At the same time, the IB curriculum continues to increase the weight of assessments on "critical thinking," "research skills," and "ethical judgment."
The value of rote memorization is declining, while the ability to ask good questions is becoming increasingly important.
📘A-Level: Changes in examination methods
In 2026, A-Level will undergo its most significant reform in recent years 📝
• First-time introduction of open-book exams and digital assessments
• English Literature subject: The proportion of pure memorization questions is reduced by 30%, with 40% new questions added for in-depth text analysis
• The value of rote memorization is declining, while the weight of critical thinking is increasing
📙AP: Greater emphasis on "how to use tools to solve problems"
The AP curriculum is also adjusting its assessment methods, with an increased proportion of ✒ project-based assignments. Students can use AI to assist in research, but they must build their own final conclusions and logical chains.
👪Three suggestions for parents
- Ask during school visits:
Does the school have a systematic AI curriculum? Is it offered as a separate course or integrated into various subjects? How are usage boundaries defined for different grade levels? - Focus on assessment methods:
Is the school reducing assessments based on mechanical memorization? Is it increasing project-based learning and process evaluations? - Focus on abilities that "AI cannot replace":
Truly visionary schools not only teach children how to use AI but also emphasize critical thinking, independent thinking, and ethical judgment.
Final thoughts
👇
Technology is always changing, but the essence of education remains unchanged—cultivating individuals who can think independently and tackle unknown challenges.
In the AI era, this goal is not weakened but demands even higher standards.
